This Election Day, Vote Like Reparations Depend On It
Election Day (November 3) is upon us and the Why We Can’t Wait Reparations Network (WWCW) – the largest network and coordinating body organizing for reparations at the federal level – is making sure reparative justice is present and accounted for at the ballot box.
Standard voter guides discuss affordability, health care, education, infrastructure, and access to food and nutrition. WWCW’s Voter Engagement Guide includes reparations in that same discussion, since our communities deserve candidates who can offer a specific, comprehensive plan for repair.
Start today with the ‘community education’ section, familiarize yourself with the 100+ reparations initiatives across the country, and share this information with your family, congregation, or organization. When researching potential candidates or attending a town hall meeting, use the candidate ‘issue assessment’ tab to learn how each person stands on reparations and raise those questions in the room.
Once you are ready to take action, the ‘voter and reparations resources,’ located on the “resources and action” tab, will assist you in drawing up a voting plan, checking that you are registered, verifying the registration deadline in your state, and also in finding the location of your polling station.
Any civil or human rights policy aimed at improving our lives will fail without true, full reparations. When we don’t address the root cause, harm to our communities keeps compounding. Make your plan today!
